GHNFH is new as of 4/16/09, is a grassroots movement and will hopefully be growing daily. Please sign up for a free membership or register your business and let us go to work for you. We will be out and about and adding new information regularly, so please check back regularly to see our progress. We promise to be working hard throughout the state to raise the awareness of the need to support local businesses and live a healthier life. The first 1000 business can register for $10.

We are more than excited to announce that we have officially begun! With new business cards in hand and the site (pretty much) ready to go, Matt was finally able to approach his first CSA/Eco Farm and gets the bug to get out and sell CSA shares.



Recent Agriculture Department Census proves plight of Small Farms

According to the 2007 U.S. Census of Agriculture, Michigan's Livestock and Crops sales totalled $5.7 billion in 2007, a 53% increase over 2002. The census, which is conducted every 5 years, shows a dramatic rise (45%) in sales for every sector except the nurseris and greenhouses, which have remained steady. Unfortunately, 86% of Michigan's 56,014 farms had sales less than $100,000 during this same period.
